I had the opportunity to see the Buzzworks production of Bad Seed a year or so ago in a small theatre in Hollywood and left with a big smile on my face. It had been a long time since I had seen a show that good (Really, Really, Really Good) in such a small space. It was one of those moments when you realize how lucky you are to see such an extremely talented group of actors in an intimate setting. For me, it’s what theatre is all about.
Question: But Otto, are they really THAT good.
Answer: Does a bag a flour make a big biscuit?
I have since seen other shows by Buzzworks and have been equally impressed. So it’s the real deal. Which brings me to the point of this blog and it’s that they have another show right around the corner, “Angst”: A hilariously tragic night of 80’s oddities. Director Danny Schmitz has solicited the help of Mo Collins (MADtv), Melissa Peterman (Reba), Cedric Yarbrough (Reno 911), Sam Pancake (Lovespring International) and Buzzworks members Wayne Wilderson and Rich Hutchman, to form an ad hoc group whose sole purpose is to re-invent for the stage your favorite 80’s classics! The local indi-pop band, Populuxe, will be covering the biggest hits of the decade with celebrity guest singers. Audience members will be invited to mix and mingle with the stars at a post-show cocktail reception in the lovely courtyard at The Village. Proceeds to benefit Buzzworks Theater Company (BWT).
But here is the catch.
It’s one night only. Just one! The show is Monday July 20th at the Renberg Theatre at The Village at Ed Gould Plaza located at 1125 McCadden Pl in LA.
Tickets are only $25 and reservations can be made here. The show is directed by Danny Schmitz, starring: Melissa Peterman, Mo Collins (awesome - she has a freaking Wikipedia page!), Cedric Yarbrough (again Wiki - need we say more), Sam Pancake (another…I can’ take it), Wayne Wilderson, Rich Hutchman (hmm - where is your website rich?) and more. Music by Populuxe.
This show will sell out. For sure. So my suggestion is to hurry (RUN not walk) and get tickets now before it’s to late.
